Today is a milestone that seemed impossible at diagnosis – 10 years with stage 4 cancer!
I’m so grateful to my medical & surgical teams, my friends & family and the fab cancer community for getting me here.
My FIRST decade of striving and thriving, I’m calling it #TENacity!
It’s a good opportunity to highlight that the survivor statistics don’t predict how long WE will live for. At diagnosis the 5-year survival was around 5% and median survival was less than 18 months. Yet here I am, striving and thriving after 10 years!
I really believe that I’m living bonus years, and I’m aware that so many aren’t as lucky. That’s why I want to make these bonus years count, it’s my driver to try to help others with stage 4 cancer, through Strive for Five – Living Life with Stage 4 Cancer, working with charities like Cancer Research UK, and the patient advocacy work like the recent mini lecture tour. I really hope that it’s making a difference for others with stage 4.
